Learn how to create beautiful Japanese braids using the ancient art of Kumihimo. Our own Ann Pettit will be teaching us. There will be a materials fee of $10.00 as Ann will be providing discs & thread. You may also bring your own equipment, (no foam discs, please). You must sign up in advance by contacting Ann Pettit through the Carmel Crafts Guild email. Use “Braiding” as the subject.
This is a beginning class, and should be taken if you plan to take the advanced Kumihimo class at CNCH which will be taught by Michael Hattori.

The Weaving Structure Group will be presenting their Block Weave samples. In her 2022 article in Handwoven magazine, Madelyn Van Der Hooght defines a block weave this way. “Block weaves are structures in which groups of warp and weft threads can produce two different-looking interlacements, one that identify as “pattern,” the other as “background.” We look forward to seeing, and getting inspiration from, all the brilliant weaves this hardworking group put together in 2024.
