About

Welcome to the Carmel Crafts Guild

Where Imagination is the Beginning of Creation

We all have our own life to pursue, our own kind of dream to be weaving, and we all have the power to make wishes come true, as long as we keep believing.

-Louisa May Alcott

Carmel Crafts Guild is one of the oldest fiber-arts guilds in the United States. Established in 1948 as a multi-crafts guild, this included many different artisans, from those who worked with iron, wood, and leather to jewelers, potters, spinners, and weavers. Today’s focus is on the fiber arts. We are a group who enjoy weaving, dyeing, spinning, tatting and many other fiber crafts.

What we do

The Carmel Crafts Guild holds monthly meetings, sponsors programs, creates public displays, maintains a topical library, publishes an informative newsletter, and serves as a contact resource for continuing development in weaving (large and small looms), spinning, dyeing, knitting, tatting, basketry and other fiber and fabric crafts.

Meetings

Our general meeting is held on the 3rd Saturday of the month, from 10:00 to noon.

Currently we are meeting at:

The Wool Room
Monterey County Fairgrounds, Gate 4
2004 Fairgounds Rd Monterey CA 93940

In addition, we also broadcast our meetings over our Zoom Channel.

Programs

Many of our monthly meetings have programs that highlight a specialty technique or new craft.

These programs are either hosted by guild members, or by instructors invited to teach at the guild meeting.

Programs often involve a hands-on component for interested guild members to explore the new craft or technique.

Classes and workshops

Outside of our monthly guild meetings and programs, we offer classes and workshops led by world-class teachers. These classes are an excellent way to study a new technique with expert instruction available and hands-on learning.

Our members may also hold classes for other guild members who want to learn a specific crafting skill.

These classes may have fees associated with them.

Study groups

Our study groups are an integral part of our guild and are free to members. This is where we learn together.

Currently, we offer study groups in:

Events

Carmel Crafts Guild members participate in many annual events, showing off our fiber talents. Our members display and demonstrate at the Monterey County Fair. Another annual event is Farm Day where we teach school children about spinning, weaving, knitting and other fiber arts. Ask us to demonstrate, and we will happily show up to share our love of fiber arts.

Every year we hold a Winter Holiday Potluck Party. We coordinate a personal gift exchange of a handmade item or there is a general “under $20.00” gift exchange. Participation is fun, but not required.

Joining the Guild

Joining the Carmel Crafts Guild is easy. Go to the membership page and download the form. Fill that out and either mail it with a check for your dues or bring them to the next regular meeting.
